Day 30 -- We Did It!
So, on this 30th day of Blopathon 2007, I thought I'd say a few words about the empty nest. (A subject, although the title of this blog, seldom gets addressed.)
As it turns out, the empty nest is not a big deal!
Last night, as I was talking to my daughter on the phone (she often calls me on her way home from work, a practice that will have to cease as of July 1, 2008) I realized: I talk to her more now than I did when she lived here!
We are closer now than we ever were. She calls me all the time with questions, dilemas, or just to chat! This is a relationship stage that I never got to enjoy with my own mother (she passed away when I was 21) so it is all very new and enlightening to me.
As she is a poor young lady living on her own for the first time, she does not have the $$ for such luxuries as cable or internet. She watches a lot of NetFlix movies and surfs the net on the odd occasion that a neighbor has an unsecured wireless signal that she can connect to. I fully expect when I get home from work this afternoon to find her on my living room couch, watching my cable TV and surfing the net using my wireless connection! (Probably wearing pajamas that she keeps at my house for just such emergencies.)
I love the fact that she and I are so close; I hate the fact that I never got to have that relationship with my own mom!
